Interadventure - The Twins' After-Thanksgiving Surprise

"Where are the toys you bought with your allowance?" Agnes asked the twins as they were unloading the car. "Did you forget to bring them?"
"Um. No Mom," Mel started.
"Just like Grandpa, we wanted to give something to our new friends, but in secret," Mal said.
"We talked to the man in charge just before we left and made him promise not to tell. We told him the names of the kids we wanted to give the different toys and games to," Mel continued.
"But why didn't you tell us?" Agnes asked, bewildered. Did the twins know that it was their grandfather who organized the unnamed group that would support the health clinic?
"Grandpa didn't tell," Mel said.
"How did you know? You didn't say anything in the car when we were talking about it," Agnes said, trying to understand.
"Aw, that was grown-up talk. But this morning, when the man talked about that new center, Grandpa looked so...so happy inside," Mel said. "He was sitting up very straight in the chair. I figured it was Grandpa and I poked Mal. Mal saw it too."
Mal got a little worried. Would his mother be angry that he and Mel did not tell the adults what they planned to do before doing it?
"We thought it was ok, since Grandpa did it," Mal started to explain.
"Of course, it was ok," Agnes said. "That was a wonderful thing you did. Let's go tell your Dad. Later we'll let your Grandpa know how you followed his example."
"That's ok. He probably knows," Mal said.
"Why is that?" Agnes asked.
"He sure seems to know a lot of stuff," Mal answered, thinking about how Mike seemed to know about his getting closed up in the meat locker and his sneaking some of Mel's dessert at Door County when he was being punished.
"Hmm, he sure does," Agnes replied, thinking about entirely different "stuff."
